Set Your SKINtention for the New Year
The New Year is a good time to assess your skin health, set goals for the upcoming year, and plan on how you will achieve them.
Focused on clearer skin? Minimizing the appearance of dark undereye circles? Preventing and treating wrinkles and dark spots? Reducing your skin cancer risk? Schedule an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist to determine your best plan of attack.
Unsure of what your skin care resolutions should be? Here are a few to add to your checklist:
Girl, Wash your Face - Use a gentle cleanser to wash off excess skin oils in the morning, and to remove makeup, air pollution and sweat at the end of the day. Consider a double-wash, if your makeup is stubborn. And don’t forget to wash your makeup tools regularly. Oils and bacteria build up on them and get transferred back to your makeup containers and face!
Shine Bright like a Diamond - Incorporate an antioxidant-rich serum into your daily skin care routine. Antioxidants like vitamin C, ferulic and green tea help to undo UV and pollution-induced free radical damage to structural collagen and cellular DNA. And vitamin C, in particular, helps to rebuild collagen, brighten your skin and fade dark spots.
But first, Sunscreen - Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30+ every single day! Chemical and physical sunscreen ingredients help to break down and/or deflect damaging UV rays, which pass through clouds, window glass, and reflect off of water, sand, snow and ice. Apply a thin layer over any topical medication, serum and/or moisturizer, and before you apply your makeup.
